Apartment Review
Island Club Apartments, A Place To Call Home!
Review Date: 7/18/2009

This is a letter I wrote to Westdale Management regarding my overall rating of Island Club Apartments. To Westdale Asset Management: I have been a resident at Island Club Apartments in Indianapolis, Indiana since July of 2004. I first noticed the apartment complex while living at Mariner’s Village when I would take a walk around the lakes. At first glance, I thought these apartments were magnificent. The architecture and the fact that all seemed to be on the water was highly appealing to me however I thought I would not be able to afford that style of luxury type living. To my amazement the apartments were very reasonable so I decided to move and have LOVED it here every since. The management at the time was very nice and personable as well as the maintenance men. They all were very helpful. I have to point out that Mike Martin is especially helpful to me and takes care of every little thing, even changing a light bulb (one blew up in my hands so I was not comfortable changing it). He is always busy, busy, busy but not so much so that it takes away from a tenants needs. He is a loyal employee and does a great job. Mike has gone out of his way and beyond the call of duty to help me with my apartment. I had a break in attempt and he promptly purchased the necessary items and installed locks on my sliding glass door with no questions asked. Since the recent break in attempts, it is my understanding that Manager, John Commons, himself, is taking charge and riding through the community to make sure there are fewer ‘undesirables’ lurking around the complex and has even taken the necessary actions to run those who don’t live here, out. This makes me feel much safer. Christy and Chris at the front desk are always pleasant to me even as busy as they are. John Commons is especially nice and I have realized much more as my lease was ending and I ventured to look at other gated communities or apartments up in Fishers which would place me closer to work. I was greeted with snoodiness at the other places and as a professional I don’t appreciate that kind of attitude since I like to make friends with the management as I need their help when things go wrong. I gave all my information I had gathered to Christy, here at ‘The Islands’, for her use in marketing and I told her to write my new and 6th lease for another year. I could not find an apartment with the same wonderful view with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, washer, dryer, fireplace and friendliness anywhere else. When you live in a place for 5 years and it only feels like 1, you are at the right location! It pays to venture out and see what you really have and I just wanted to share my feelings of comfort and award the kind people who are so willing to help me out when I need it. I, in turn, help the community when they have injured waterfowl since I am a volunteer with Providence Wildlife Rehabilitation. It is like Marty Stouffer’s Wild America right here on my back porch and I love seeing all the migrating birds come in and out throughout the seasons. You can’t find a community like this ANYWHERE for the money. I used to live on Lake Norman in Charlotte NC (10 years) but the cost of living on that water was a far cry from that here and the view is just as magnificent! It is absolutely 98% perfect. The only suggestions I would make is to make this community a gated community and a professional looking newsletter. I know it would cost a bit to surround it with decorative fencing but it would be well worth the additional charge (in rent), I think, to do this and since most of it is surrounded by water, this expense would be minimal compared to WaterStone just down the road. I believe that the break in attempts are coming from the undesirable communities that exist behind Island Club because I see them cross over all the time. As for the newsletter, well, I am a graphic designer and marketing consultant by trade so I would be willing to design a monthly newsletter for the apartment complex if you so desire, at no charge. Thank you John, Christie, Chris, Mike and all for allowing me to live in this superb community and I will take the money I would have spent on moving and put it back into my lovely apartment here. I need grass so that is my next project. I am having company coming and I know they will love the view and enjoy the fishing and bird watching! To anyone wanting to live here, it is the best place to live if you like affordable living on the water!
