Apartment Review
Balanced review from a late 2008 resident
Review Date: 1/17/2009 Reviewer: Anonymous
I lived in the building for two months in September/October 2008 in a fully furnished studio. I chose the building because I was looking for a reasonably priced fully furnished place while I was in the middle of a relocation. Overall, it was a pretty good fit, although If you’re used to staying in the Four Seasons, you may be more comfortable paying more For something nicer somewhere else. Things I was concerned with prior to move-in but shouldn’t have been: Parking—1st, it’s free, which is pretty nice for downtown, especially as you get closer to the circle you’ll start paying for parking. Also, I never had trouble finding a place in the lot. Washers/Dryers—I was concerned there might not be enough capacity so I’d be stuck doing laundry Friday evenings or Monday nights at 3:00 am. I never had an issue getting a washer or dryer and typically was the only person in the laundry room. Even Sunday nights, typically a high traffic time, isn’t an issue. Management/maintenance—the building manager, Russell, lives onsite and I found him To be both flexible and responsive. Noise—having lived in apartments before, I was concerned I’d be able to hear my neighbor’s music…among other things. This was completely NOT the case, the building was quiet at really all times during both days and nights, and you’ll probably see only a few people coming or going each day. Demographics—overall it’s a mix of a large number of students, with a lean toward international students, and a variety of short-term professionals of all ages. Items I wasn’t concerned about prior to move-in but should have been: Don’t expect the kitchen to be fully stocked. If you like to cook like Martha Stewart, you’re going to be disappointed. As an example, you’ll only be getting four large plates (rather than an entire set of large and small plates.) The materials will likely be garage-sale grade, so don’t expect extremely nice items. Kitchen Items you probably won’t be stocked with (or at least I wasn’t): Cutting board Knife Set – you may only receive one large semi-sharp knife Blender Pizza Pan Large (4-quart) Pot 4-cup measure for liquids Measuring cups Cleaning supplies are not preloaded into the units, so expect to have to buy your own mop, dust pans, etc. There may or may not be a vacuum in the unit, so verify the vacuum situation prior to moving in. Overall—if you’re looking for a reasonable place for a short-term stay, especially if you want to be downtown and will be going out to eat a lot, you will like Renaissance Tower. If you grew up at a Country Club or want to be surrounded by Pottery Barn furnishings, you’ll be under whelmed. |
