Apartment Review for St. James - Indianapolis, IN

The unit itself is pretty decent – lots of character, hard wood floors, great base wall color, nice cabinetry, interesting floor plan. Unfortunately, there is a big MOUSE PROBLEM! The building and maintenance were definitely lacking. The walls are very thin and you can constantly hear everything your neighbors are doing. Plus there is so much street noise that sleeping without ear plugs is impossible. Almost all of the other tenants had pets (most of which weigh more than the lease limits), which were constantly barking. The halls often stink of pet excrement. Very rarely did I see other tenants cleaning up after their pets. There were times when pet excrement was left outside so long that mushrooms began to grow on it. It was disgusting. The security codes on the gate and door never change. Upon moving in, I was under the impression that the codes would change frequently for safety purposes. They only changed once during my tenancy and it was because I called and e-mailed management until it was handled. The parking is a nightmare. They make you think that there is a strict policy on resident only parking and they will tow anyone who doesn’t have a pass. This is not true and sometimes the lot is so full that even actual residents don’t have anywhere to park. There were several occasions where I had two park two streets over. Overall, I didn’t feel very safe here and was constantly annoyed and disgusted by the actions of the other tenants (and their pets). I wouldn’t recommend this building at all.
